The Rio de Janeiro Paralympics open today and Google has released a new Doodle to celebrate.
The games, originally designed as a program to assist injured British WWII veterans, have become the world’s largest competitive sporting event for athletes with physical disabilities, drawing 4,500 athletes from 176 countries worldwide.
“Today’s Doodle celebrates the opening of the 2016 Summer Paralympics and highlights the incredible feats of athleticism the participants will demonstrate in Rio,” Google said in a statement.
Rio de Janeiro is the first Latin American city to host the Paralympics. The games will take place from Sept. 7 to Sept. 18 and can be live streamed on the official Rio 2016 Paralympics website.
