Did you feel that Drake’s “Hotline Bling” had too much bling and not enough hotline? Did you feel like the video that spawned a thousand memes lacked that authentic hanging-on-the-telephone feel? YouTuber Andrew Huang has fixed that for you.
In a new video, Huang has recreated Drake’s chart-toppping track using only the sounds created by actual phones. In the video, Huang manages to weave together an iPhone’s default ringtone, a dial tone, a phone cord, the distinctive dial of a rotary phone, the sound of a finger tapping on a phone’s case or slaps on a cell phone, and his own voice to create a credible version of Drake’s song, complete with back-up dancers and dorky dance moves. It’s bewildering and kind of beautiful, too.
Watch the video and see for yourself. Before you ask, Huang notes in the video description, “Yes it is all just the sounds pictured.”
