Pit Bull Who Went Missing During Texas Floods Found in California

A dog that disappeared during flooding in Texas back in May has somehow made his way to California, the Associated Press reports.

Thor the pit bull ran away after his family evacuated their home in San Marcos over Memorial Day weekend, his owner Eddie Hurtado told the AP. In September, police found the pooch wandering around Crescent City, Calif. Workers at Del Norte County Animal Shelter used his microchip to identify him, and traced him back to Hurtado, who says he has no idea how Thor ended up there.

Justin Riggs, director of the shelter, told NBC News that someone probably drove Thor to California. Hurtado couldn’t afford the estimated $1,500 to ship Thor home, but luckily, a California truck driver volunteered to give him a lift. In the meantime, the shelter has offered to keep him safe.

“Certainly after everything they’ve been through,” Riggs said, “the least we can do is keep him safe here.”
